Campbell Soup Company Teams up with the National Association of Letter Carriers to Help Stamp out Hunger
Nation's Largest Single-Day Food Drive on May 14 Helps Americans at Risk of Hunger

CAMDEN, N.J., May 10, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- On Saturday, May 14, 2011, Campbell Soup Company(NYSE:CPB) will again join forces with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) to Stamp Out Hunger across America, providing assistance to the millions of Americans who are struggling to put food on their tables every day.

Now in its 19th year, the Stamp Out Hunger food drive, which is always held on the second Saturday in May, has become the nation's largest single-day food drive. In 2010, drive organizers representing nearly 1,500 U.S. Post Office branches across the country, collected a record-setting total of 77.1 million pounds of food donations. This pushed the historical total for the drive to more than one billion pounds of food.

"We're incredibly proud of the success of the Stamp Out Hunger food drive over the years and recognize 'what a difference a day can make' for those in need," said Fredric V. Rolando, NALC president. "As letter carriers, we see people on our daily routes that rely on the generosity and assistance of others to help provide something as basic as a meal at a time of need. We're proud to have established a program that truly provides assistance in every community across the country."

Despite the generosity of millions of Americans who have supported the letter carriers' food drive in previous years, the need for food assistance has never been greater. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's annual study measuring food security in the United States, the number of Americans living in food insecure homes topped 50 million in 2009 (the most recent year that such data is available). Perhaps most alarming, of this total, approximately one in three people in America who is at hunger risk is a child (17.2 million).

Campbell Shows Its Support

Campbell Soup Company, a long-time supporter of the Stamp Out Hunger food drive, produced more than 80 million postcards that are being delivered to homes across America this week to remind everyone to participate in the drive. In addition, Campbell will again support this year's food collection effort by donating one pound of food (up to one million pounds) to Feeding America for every person who joins the Stamp Out Hunger Facebook Cause, pledging their support to donate food. "Campbell is committed to the success of the Stamp Out Hunger food drive and we will do all we can to remind Americans to contribute on Saturday, May 14th," said Denise Morrison, Campbell Soup Company's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. "Hunger continues to be a critical issue for our nation," she added. "At a time when we are experiencing challenging economic conditions, it remains unacceptable that millions of Americans, especially our children, continue to go hungry in our country. That's why we're proud to be a part of this drive, which not only demonstrates the generosity of our neighbors, but also benefits community members in need."

Get Involved In Your Community

To participate in the Stamp Out Hunger drive, Americans are encouraged to leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal next to their mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on Saturday, May 14, 2011. The nation's 230,000 letter carriers will collect these food donations as they deliver the mail and take them to their Feeding America affiliated food bank or other hunger relief organization that service the more than 10,000 communities where collections are being made.

Feeding America is the nation's leading domestic-hunger-relief organization, providing hunger support to more than 37 million Americans every year. Today, one in eight Americans relies on the organization for food and groceries. In a recent survey conducted by Feeding America, it was determined that nearly half (46 percent) of all households the organization serves reported having to choose between paying for utilities or food.
